CESI Celebrates Its 45th Anniversary in 2023!

CESI, a privately held corporation, was established in 1978 by Albert D. Frieze, Jr., PLS, and K. Gary Simmons, PE/PLS.

Initially focused on boundary and construction surveying, we have grown to become a 70+ person firm offering land surveying, civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, and construction material testing across the Southeast.

Milestones include projects such as the Philip Morris Plant where CESI provided construction surveying services beginning with the first grading company on the site and continuing through all phases of construction and into the plant’s operating years providing internal piping layout.

Other notable survey projects include the NC-SC State Line; portions of the Appalachian Trail; Height Modernization Surveys for the NC Geodetic Survey; US Army Corps of Engineers beach erosion surveys and topographic surveys of the Military Ocean Terminal at Sunnypoint; quality control surveys for the NC Flood Mapping Program and multiple heavy highway projects I-77, I-85, and other major roads. Civil engineering milestones include work for Charlotte Motor Speedway, the International Business Park, Cabarrus County, and Cabarrus and Iredell County Schools. Geotechnical milestones include many projects for NC fire stations, Cabarrus County Schools, Wingate University, and Pfeiffer University.
