We often get calls from clients asking for a compaction test when a bearing test is really what’s needed. While both are key for foundation performance, they serve different purposes — and happen at different stages of construction.
🔹 Compaction Testing: Done as soil is placed to confirm it’s been compacted properly for a stable base.
🔹 Bearing Testing (DCP): Done after footing excavations to check if the in-place soil can support the structure’s load.
✅ Compaction = quality of placed fill
✅ Bearing = strength of in-situ soil
