Stanly Community College Tech & Trades Facility

Demand for skilled trades workers across North Carolina and our region is not merely high, it is soaring. To meet this need, Stanly Community College constructed a trades facility on their Albemarle Campus that will offer training in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, masonry, welding, HVAC, machining, and heavy equipment operation. This 31,600-square-foot facility is a $12 million dollar investment that will provide the skills and education necessary to fill the workforce pipeline.

CESI provided a geotechnical engineering evaluation of the proposed building, parking and drive area. Our findings and recommendations were used by civil and structural design teams for final design.

CESI provided construction materials testing and special inspection services for this College Tech & Trades Facility. Services included subgrade evaluation, bearing grade assessment, and field density testing of structural fill and utility trench backfill to ensure compliance with geotechnical specifications. Concrete was tested both in the field and laboratory for strength and quality, while reinforcement steel and structural steel components were inspected for proper installation. Roof deck installations were visually reviewed for adherence to project requirements. Detailed daily and formal reports documenting all evaluations, tests, and any necessary corrective actions.
