SteelFab-Charlotte Douglas Airport
The K2M Design team, in collaboration with Gresham Smith, was entrusted with the design of the Terminal Lobby Expansion at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT). Initiated in late 2019, this transformative project aimed to revitalize and enhance the passenger experience by reimagining CLT’s main terminal.
Key features of the expansion included:
- Modernized entryways: Passengers arriving via the new elevated roadway will encounter an expansive curtain wall and prominent entrance portals, designed to seamlessly orient and guide travelers.
- Protection from the elements: A striking and functional overhead canopy shelters travelers at drop-off zones and on the two connector bridges, ensuring comfort in all weather conditions.
- Enhanced connectivity: These bridges provide a safe, efficient passage for passengers traveling between the Rental Car Facility and the terminal, routing them securely over vehicle traffic.
- Additionally, CESI conducted as-built surveying for Steelfab to ensure precise steel alignment and integration at the main entrance and the passenger pick up and drop off areas, guaranteeing structural accuracy and quality for this pivotal addition to CLT.
The Terminal Lobby Expansion is a monumental step forward in creating a welcoming, efficient, and traveler-centric environment at one of the nation’s busiest airports.
